Welcome to "The Gallery at Potsdamer Platz" Journey!
Dear Readers,
I'm thrilled to have you with me on this exciting journey into the world of "The Gallery at Potsdamer Platz".
Introduction to the project:
"The Gallery at Potsdamer Platz" is a historical novel set in pre-war Berlin. It tells the story of a young art student, Alice, who moves to the capital after the death of her mother. Seeking to reconnect with her family, once renowned art dealers, she is initially met with cold rejection. However, Alice soon feels at home in Berlin's vibrant art scene and discovers her talent as a photographer. She falls in love with John, a German-Irishman, and together they plan to reopen the family's once-legendary gallery on Potsdamer Platz, despite her grandmother's opposition. Along the way, Alice meets Erik, an art connoisseur and heir to a spectacular art collection. But is he really interested in helping her? In these turbulent times, with the rise of the Nazis, Alice's love, the gallery, and her entire family are in danger of being torn apart...

A little about me:
I am passionate about bringing history to life through storytelling. My works often weave together the intricate tapestries of historical events with the personal journeys of my characters, all enriched by my deep love for art history. "Die Galerie am Potsdamer Platz" and its sequels "Zeitenwende am Potsdamer Platz" ("Shadows over Potsdamer Platz") and "Wiedersehen am Potsdamer Platz" ("Remnants of Potsdamer Platz") have already been published in German, and I am currently working on the translation of the first book into English.
Background Information on the Book's Creation
The idea for "The Gallery at Potsdamer Platz" was born out of my fascination with the Weimar Republic, a period of extraordinary cultural and artistic innovation set against a backdrop of political instability. I spent countless hours researching the art movements, social dynamics, and historical events of the 1920s to create a rich and immersive setting for the novel.
One of the most rewarding parts of writing this book was exploring the stories of real-life artists and their works, which inspired many of the fictional pieces and characters in the novel. I visited museums, read biographies, and pored over old photographs to bring authenticity and depth to the narrative.
The idea for this book also emerged from my personal family background, which is closely intertwined with Berlin and the art trade. My grandfather, Wolfgang Gurlitt, ran one of the most renowned galleries in Berlin.

Here's a little snippet from "The Gallery at Potsdamer Platz" to pique your interest:
"When the door clicked shut behind her, she flinched. A strange silence, seemingly built up over the years, hung over the rooms. It felt as though the house itself was holding its breath, listening to see who had entered to wake it from its slumber. Alice closed her eyes and listened. If she concentrated, she thought she could hear the house exhale, stretch, and yawn.
She opened her eyes as Johann walked across the dusty hardwood floor to draw the curtains in front of the nearly floor-to-ceiling windows. Light flooded into the stuffy room. Alice felt as if the house were welcoming her, watching her with curiosity and hope."
